The violinist and director Alexander Janiczek has a busy springtime.  He has been on tour directing both Camerata Salzburg and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra with Piotr Anderszewski.   This month he performed Schumann's violin concerto which he will also take to Finland in the Autumn. In March and April he returns to Camerata and the SCO to direct concerts with Beethoven's great Op.131 quartet and the 2nd Symphony.   He has a residency with 3 concerts at the Bath Festival and around all this still has time to perform A Soldier's Tale at St.Magnus, appear at La Scala, give recitals with Llŷr Williams, and direct an orchestral course at Dartington.

alexander Janiczek

Few violinists today can equal the intellectual and musical breadth of artist Alexander Janiczek.  “Spellbinding” (the Guardian), “truly astounding...a blistering performance” (the Herald), are typical of his press.  Janiczek has appeared as guest director with all of the notable chamber orchestras in Europe.  Touring extensively in the past with Camerata Salzburg and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, in 2011 he was appointed Associate Artist with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.  His extensive discography includes an acclaimed disc directing the COE in Stravinsky's Apollon Musagète and Pulcinella Suite, as well as a number of highly respected discs directing the SCO.  Other highlights include recordings of Mahler, Beethoven and Berlioz conducted by Rattle, Krivine and Davis. Working widely as a chamber musician, Janiczek is also committed to exploring 19th Century performance practice. Professor of Violin at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Janiczek plays the ex-‘Sorkin’ Giuseppe Guarneri, del Gesù, Cremona 1731, loaned by the National Bank of Austria.
