Alexander Janiczek joins the NYOS Strings for their Highlands tour.
"...the strings of the orchestra will step forward in their own right for a new initiative with a three-concert tour of the Highlands, operated through North Highland Connections, in which they will be directed by violinist and former SCO leader Alexander Janiczek, making his own NYOS debut (...) The string section of the symphony orchestra will also be ferociously exposed in a challenging programme that goes to Wick, Golspie and Tain in August where, under the consummately experienced directorship of Alexander Janiczek, they will have to play two great pillars of the string repertoire: Tchaikovsky’s virtuosic Serenade for Strings, which wrings every ounce of Romantic juice and display from a string section; and Shostakovich’s Chamber Symphony, which is Rudolf Barshai’s blisteringly concentrated and, in one movement, utterly savage, arrangement of the composer’s Eighth String Quartet."
