Annelies Van Parys (°1975) studied composition at the University College Ghent, Royal Conservatory, with Luc Brewaeys. She received the prizes Flanders-Québec, “Jeugd en Muziek”, Frères Darche and was laureate of the Tactus International Composition Seminar with “Einklang” for orchestra. In 2011 she received the prestigious title: Laureate from the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium.
She has been performed by almost all major Belgian Ensembles (Spectra, Champ d’Action, Ictus, Oxalys…), many ensembles abroad (SMCQ Montreal, Cantus Zagreb, Ensemble 88 Holland, Recherche Freiburg, NYNME New York) as well as most Belgian orchestras.
Her first Symphony “Carillon” was written for deFilharmonie, Royal Flemish Philharmonic, conducted by Sian Edwards. “Ruhe”, a music theatre performance with music of Schubert and Van Parys in a concept of Josse De Pauw was produced by Muziektheater Transparant and performed by Collegium Vocale Ghent in almost every major theatre festival in Europe and in festivals ranging from the Edinburgh International Festival to Sidney and from Rome to Stavanger.
