Daniel Becker
Daniel Becker has received great acclaim for his insightful interpretations of standard and contemporary repertoire, already winning many prizes, including the British Contemporary Piano Competition. Born in London in 1977, Daniel began his studies at the Junior Guildhall School of Music, King’s College, Cambridge, and then at the Royal Academy of Music, supported by the Countess of Munster Musical Trust. He has already given his debuts in New York, Paris and in London, both at the South Bank and at the Wigmore Hall. Recent recitals include the Fuse Leeds Festival and the Cheltenham Festival in a programme of Charles Ives and John Adams. The Evening Standard wrote: “Becker dazzles with brilliant Boulez ... with a rare sense of freedom”, and Musical Pointers said: "a recital to remember and a name to mark for future appearances." Much in demand as a chamber and ensemble pianist, Daniel has recently performed with Endymion Ensemble, Britten Sinfonia, and with the Composers' Ensemble at the Aldeburgh Festival. He also performs regularly with pianist Huw Watkins. He works closely with many composers, in particular Alexander Goehr whose Piano Quintet he premiered and has recorded along with his Piano Trio and other piano works for Meridian to mark Goehr’s 75th Birthday. Other recordings include a disc of Howard Skempton for Black Box and a cd of Beethoven Sonatas.
