John Lubbock began his musical career as a chorister at St George’s Chapel, Windsor and went on to sing with the London Symphony Chorus, the John Alldis Choir and was a member of the Swingle Singers. After studying under the great Sergiu Celibidache he has appeared as guest conductor with many leading UK orchestras including the City of Birmingham Symphony, the London Philharmonic, BBC Scottish Symphony, Hallé, London Mozart Players, Manchester Camerata and Northern Sinfonia, as well as founding his own Orchestra of St.John's. International engagements have included orchestras in Ireland, throughout continental Europe, in Argentina and in Canada.
John is also a passionate advocate for orchestral education and community activities and has directed many youth orchestras throughout the UK and North America. He has an extensive repertoire from the core cassical repertoire, commissioned many major works and performed with other musical styles from gospel choir to world-renowned rock band s such as Radiohead. John also founded, with his wife Christine Cairns, Music for Autism.
John received an Honorary Fellowship from the Royal Academy of Music in July 1999.
