G A R Y C O O P E R
Gary has been a musician since the age of 8, and dreamed of nothing else during his childhood. After attending Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester, he went on to study performance practice at the John Loosemore Centre, read for music degree at New College Oxford & toured as a student with the European Community Baroque Orchestra.
During the 1990s, he performed extensively with Monica Huggett & Trio Sonnerie, and became established internationally as a conductor of baroque opera & orchestras, as well as a harpsichord soloist specialising in Bach’s major works, such as the Goldberg Variations. This later extended to the fortepiano, and his collaboration with Rachel Podger began, along with an increasing focus on Mozart & Beethoven’s piano music. Through his career, he was involved in over 100 CD recordings, toured internationally, was interviewed on international radio & screen, and reviewed in exceptional terms.
In 2010, he decided to take a break from his career in music, and moved to North Scotland. The sabbatical turned into something more permanent when he married Sabine, a German violist. Together they now have a young family, and live in Exmoor in the UK, where Gary has developed his talent as a healer & writer, as well as forays into free improvisation on the piano.
