When Heinrich Schutz went to study with Giovanni Gabrieli in Venice early in the 17th century, it was simply because he wanted to learn more about the art of composition. However, when the German composer finally returned to Dresden in 1612, the magnificently sonorous Venetian concerted idiom spread throughout Europe and a new musical era began.

The internationally acclaimed wind ensemble His Majestys Sagbutts and Cornetts are joined by the King's Singers in an homage to that personal encounter with concerted works by both masters.
