STEVIE WISHART

As a composer, performer and improviser Wishart explores medieval & contemporary and extremes, using ancient technologies such as the hurdy-gurdy as well as electronic music and cutting edge technologies of our own time. She has directed medieval music programs and also composed for her ensemble Sinfonye, as well as for other early music ensembles, modern orchestral and vocal groups. Sometimes working purely acoustically with music notation, score and conductor, sometimes combined with improvisation, and sometimes using computer music systems. In her current solo performance The Sound of Gesture she combines all of these sound worlds.

Stevie Wishart's live mix of song and sound is an impressive counter-text, as in a Godard movie it tells its own stories and cuts in and out of the action, sometimes providing unusual romantic movie soundtracks using her own voice, sometimes the alien otherness of a computer talking and electronic pulsings.
