Celebrating his 60th Birthday this year, Edward McGuire was in Glasgow in 1948. He studied composition with James Iliff at the Royal Academy of Music, London and then with the Swedish composer Ingvar Lidholm in Stockholm. His works have been regularly broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and commissions have come from many orchestras, ensembles and festivals including the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, National Youth Orchestra of Scotland, Paragon Ensemble, the St Magnus Festival, the Edinburgh International Festival and Festival Interceltique de Lorient along with many instrumental and chamber works.

Concert Hall, Glasgow University 60th Birthday Concert Edinburgh Quartet with Jessica Beeston, viola, play Martyr, Modal Duets, String Trio and Guest Quintet.

13 February, 5.15pm

Music Department of Glasgow University. Birthday Symposium - A birthday Symposium for Edward McGuire with Bill Sweeny (University of Glasgow) and John Purser (Composer, write, Scholar and Broadcaster) will take place on the Wednesday 13 February at 5.15pm in the Music Department, 14 University Gardens (Room 2 – 1st Floor).
