at SAMUEL BECKETT : IN CONFINEMENT The Institute of Irish Studies, University of Liverpool "Schubert’s ... was a real pleasure before we were served up an audio-visual delight with Beckett’s Ghost Trio, a play for television, ... at SAMUEL BECKETT : IN CONFINEMENT The Institute of Irish Studies, University of Liverpool 6 & 7 May 2022 Beckett Confined: Ghost Trio by Samuel Beckett Fri, 6 May 2022, 20:00 Samuel Beckett's play Ghost Trio performed by Anna Nygh and Frank McCusker with music by the Fidelio Trio. Ghost Trio is a television play written by Beckett in 1975, its three 'acts' reflect Beethoven's Fifth Piano Trio, known as The Ghostbecause of the slightly spooky mood of the second movement, Largo. The passages selected by Beckett are from the "ghostly" second theme. In addition the Fidelio Trio will be performing pieces by Schubert, another of Beckett's favourite composers. BOOK : https://www.eventbrite.com/e/beckett-confined-ghost-trio Samuel Beckett's radio play "Words and Music", with music composed by Morton Feldman. Sat, 7 May 2022 performed by the FIDELIO TRIO and friends, directed by Darragh Morgan In 1961 Samuel Beckett wrote Words and Music for BBC radio, a play featuring the two characters “Words” and “Music” (also referred to as Joe and Bob). The work was withdrawn following the première due to Beckett’s dissatisfaction. 20 years later, Beckett suggested that Morton Feldman should compose the music, resulting in the first complete performance in 1987 (the year of Feldman’s death), produced for the American Beckett Festival of Radio Plays. In Feldman’s words: ‘It was a huge amount of fun to do something for Beckett, a sort of tribute to him, i.e. someone who has been part of my life since the ‘50’s … it was to some extent a labour of love, which I happily undertook.’ FIDELIO TRIO Darragh Morgan, violin Tim Gill, cello Mary Dullea, piano Rose Redgrave, viola Helen Keen, flute/picc Carla Rees, flute Julian Warburton, vibraphone BOOK : https://www.eventbrite.com/e/beckett-confined-words-and-music May 2022 FIDELIO TRIO
E J Moeran Chamber Music Resonus Records "The Fidelio Trio play this music with great skill and imagination, bringing out all those continental influences in Moeran's writing and relishing the lyrical rhapsody of the music. But there is no sense of special pleading, this is terrific music in fine performances and it deserves to be heard more." www.planethugill.com March 2022 FIDELIO TRIO
